Just finished reading “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis very thought provoking.
Currently reading “Dewey” by Vicki Myron. What a fun read.
With the economy being what it is, I’ve been borrowing a lot of DVDs from the libarary. I’ve recently seen “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “Love and Other Disasters”, “The STudent Prince”, “The Golden Compass”, “Igor”, “Juno”, “The House Bunny.”
I know, I know, very eclectic choice of movies, but I like it.
I’ve recently signed on to Facebook. Been great re-connecting with friends from grade school, high school, college and theater.

Today was the Feast of the Epiphany. Among other things it commemorates the visit of the Magi to the Christ child. The gifts they brought as everyone knows were Gold, Frankincense and myrrh. Gold was the gift appropriate for a King, Frankincense a gift for a priest and Myrrh the gift for death.
With the idea of gifts I watched the movie The Ultimate Gift. Some people have criticized the movie as being overly sentimental. I don’t care, I still like the movie and teared up several times throughout. The movie’s title is not absolutely correct….THE ULTIMATE GIFT was God giving His son to the world and then the son (Jesus) giving His ife for all of us.
My prayer is that everyone receives the Gift of Christ. The gift of knowing He is Our Savior, the gift of His forgiveness and Love.

Hope you all had a great Christmas, not to mention a safe New Year.
Saw a couple of movies recently.
Cried watching Marley and Me, had to think through Doubt and hated Bedtime Stories.
Tomorrow we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany. At church a few years ago we started singing the Proclamation of the Date of Easter on Epiphany. It dates back to a time when calendars were not as readily available. It has received very favorable response from parishoners as well as some of the priests. I suggest more parishes start the tradition of using the Proclamation, experience some of the richness of our Catholic Faith. The text of the Proclamation follows:
Dear brothers and sisters, the glory of the Lord has shone upon us and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return. Through the rhythms of time and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation.
Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord: his last supper, his crucifixion, his burial, and his rising, celebrated between the evening of the Ninth of April and the evening of the Twelfth of April.
Each Easter as on each Sunday the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has forever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the Twentyfifth of February. The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on the Twentyfourth of May. Pentecost, the joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on the Thirtyfirst of May. And this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the Twentyninth of November.
Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the passover of Christ in the feasts of the holy Mother of God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed.
To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise, for ever and ever. Amen.

I am still reading the book “The Shack” by William P. Young and I will comment more on the book when I have finished. I did come a cross a quote that I felt very touching.
Papa says “there are millions of reasons to allow pain and hurt and suffering rather than to eradicate them, but most if those reasons can only be understood within each person’s story. I am not evil. You are the ones who embrace fear and pain and power and rights so readily in your relationships. But your choices are also not stronger than my purposes, and I will use every choice you make for the ultimate good and the most loving outcome.”
In the Bible God says ” Your ways are not My ways”. It is assuring that God has a plan for us. As the saying goes…”God draws straight with crooked lines” God can do ANYTHING including making our mistakes lead us to a positive result.

I realize it has been a little while since I posted anything.
Started a new job this week and it has kept me a little busy.
Just finished reading “Still Growing” an autobiography of Kirk Cameron. Rather easy read, but interesting to see what he went through and why he made the decisions he made. Strongly recommend that others read it. Kirk Cameron is the star of the movie “Fireproof” that I wrote about last month.

Today is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, One of my all time favorite saints. He is popular in art, his life story has been told in movies, books, music, and even a Marvel Comic Book. His simplicity is an inspiration to many. His love for animals is admired by all. His ability to face obstacles and overcome them is special to me.
Dear Lord, like St. Francis, give me the serenity to live simply and distinguish my needs from my wants. Help me recognize in all living creatures the same life force that flows through me. Give me the willingness to acknowledge other forms of life as my brothers and sisters, for we are all children of yours, Creator of us all. Amen
Disney Carriage Ride Thursday, Oct 2 2008

Each autumn, at the Triple D Ranch at Walt Disney World they do a carriage ride. What a great way to spend some time with friends or family, riding in a horse drawn carriage under a starry sky listening to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
A friend of mine works as a carriage driver at the Triple D. Tonight they were having practice runs of the carriage ride. I was invited to join some good friends on the ride and it was a blast. I’ve been in orlando for about 14 years now and this was my first carriage ride at the Triple D.
If you are looking for something different to do in Orlando, something out of the ordinary in this tourist haven, I suggest checking out Triple D Ranch.
On the subject of spending time at Disney….Don’t forget that the International Food and Wine Festival has started and continues through the beginning of November. Great place to sample some good food and wine.
